Location New Pond Farm Observatory, west Redding

Summary:
A Waxing Crescent Moon will allow for good stargazing. This month we will view the 4th, 5th, and 12th brightest stars in the sky, the constellations they shine in, plus view Mars, and our last seasonal glimpse of Saturn.
Detailed Description:

We will have final views of the season of Saturn with its magnificent rings and Mars, while its disk is large enough to see surface features and a polar cap. The fall sky still boasts some of the summer constellations, but now the asterism, Great Square of Pegasus, dominates overhead.  It is formed by four stars of equal brightness, Alpheratz, Markab, Algenib and Scheat.  However, the night's brightest stars are in the constellations Bootes (Arcturus 4th brightest), Lyra (Vega - 5th brightest), and Aquila or the Eagle (Altair - 12th Brightest). The waxing crescent moon (4.5 days old) will reveal its mountains and craters.  Join us for a cruise through the autumn night sky.
