Summary:
Join us on our first leg of hiking the complete Ives Trail Greenway that connects open spaces from Ridgefield to Bethel. Part 1 will be 3.5 miles.
Detailed Description:

The Ives Trail Greenway was named in honor of Charles E. Ives (1874-1954), who holds the distinction of being the Connecticut State Composer.  Born in Danbury, he is noted for his original classical compositions, winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1947 for his Symphony Number 3.  We will see the site of Ives’ cabin (pictured) on Pine Mountain, where on a clear day you can see Long Island Sound!  The 20- mile greenway connects the open spaces in the towns of Ridgefield, Danbury, Redding and Bethel.  Our plan is to hike the trail in pieces.  This first section will cover 3.5 miles from Bennett's Pond to Pine Mountain.  We will park cars at both ends to make this a one-way hike.

This is a moderately paced hike, over flat, rolling and steep rocky terrain.

What to bring: Good hiking shoes, water, bug spray, and sunscreen.  Optional: binoculars and walking stick.

Fee: Free! (donations welcome)

Location: Meet at the entrance to Bennett’s Pond State Park on Bennett’s Pond Road, located .75 miles from the stop light on Rte 7 at Bennett’s Pond Road.
