Summary:
When the Romans gazed into the Solstice night, they saw Zeus giving an eagle thunderbolts to carry. Beside the Moon, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and stars, the night sky is alive with stories. Join us and learn some.
Detailed Description:

Come celebrate the Summer Solstice with us. Brilliant Jupiter and Venus bookend the sky and the majestic Saturn with its stunning rings will be entering the early evening sky.  The moon and its many features will be viewed and those with a smartphone can take their hand at a photo.   The summer constellations of Cygnus the swan, Aquila, the eagle, and Lyra, the lyre, will pointed out and discussed.

Fun Fact:  Orpheus, the musician of the Argonauts and son of Apollo and the Muse Calliop was given the lyre by his father.  His exceptional playing was said to charm the wild beasts, rocks and trees.  Upon his death, Zeus cast the bard's lyre into the sky for all to wonder at for eternity.

At 8:45PM, there will be an optional mini-lesson for participants, especially children, to better understand what they will be viewing. This will take place in the classroom and is included in the price of the program.  Viewing will begin on Astronomy Hill at 9:15PM.
