Summary:
Join us on this hike as we search for the elusive Pink Lady Slipper and other Spring Wildflowers. Bring your Camera! Regardless of the storm, this program is going to happen on Sunday!
Detailed Description:

We are still going to hold this program on Sunday, May 20th.

Did you know that there is a native pink orchid in our area that blooms in May?  Come join us as we search for Cypripedium acaule, commonly known as the Pink Lady’s Slipper or Moccasin Flower.  It is found growing in acidic soils in the woodlands and bogs of CT.  This beautiful wildflower is becoming difficult to find.  It is a favorite food of deer.  Plus it is losing ground to land development and people collecting it.  Beside the slippers, we will look for other wildflowers like trillium, may apple, and solomon seal.

Please note this is a photo safari.  No Picking or Returning to dig them up!  Spring wildflowers are quickly disappearing from Connecticut's landscape.  Lady Slippers in particular are becoming rare.  They require special soil and don't survive transplanting.  Plus they wilt quickly.
