Connecticut Trails Day Walk 2018

The railroad line opened in 1870 and ran from Branchville station to the center of Ridgefield until closing in 1964. We will learn about its history, including a fatal train wreck that occurred in 1905. Also, we will admire the wildflowers, discuss the difference between native and invasive plants, and possibly see some turtles. Eastern box, snapping, and wood turtles return every June to lay their eggs in the sandy surface of the Rail Trail, so with luck we might see them digging their nests. The Trail is also home to many other creatures, so you never know what you might see! Come out and join the thousands of folks who will be exploring Connecticut's numerous trails and help celebrate the great outdoors.
