Time: 7:00 pm
Location New Pond Farm Observatory, West Redding
Member Price: $4.00

Summary:
A vain Queen places her kingdom and daughter in great peril, a hero aboard a winged horse to the rescue, all while the King frets. Join us as we read ancient stories in the night sky and view distant worlds.
Detailed Description:

Enjoy the crisp autumn air and expansive view of the sky with the fall constellations.  These includes the winged divine stallion, Pegasus, and Andromeda, daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopea.  Their story begins with vanity, intertwines with a monster, and ends in a perilous rescue.   In our telescopes, we will view the small, blue marble of the planet Uranus, the Andromeda galaxy (pictured above), dense clusters of stars and gaseous nebulae.  This is also the peak of the Leonids Meteor Shower, which are viewed better after midnight.  It is produced by dust grains left behind by the comet Tempel-Tuttle.  Come join us as we read the ancient stories in the night sky and view distance worlds beyond the capacity of our naked eyes.

At 6:30PM, there will be an optional mini-lesson for participants, especially children, to better understand what they will be viewing. This will take place in the classroom and is included in the price of the program.  Viewing will begin on Astronomy Hill at 7:00PM.

All Ages Welcome - Registration Required!

What to bring:  Please dress for the weather.  Bring a flashlight, as the walk to/from the observatory is dark. If you have them, lawn chairs and binoculars are welcome. For those with smartphones, there is a possibility that photos off the telescopes can be taken during the program.  (There is a warming hut near the telescopes and a wooden platform to stand on.)

Program Fees:  Members to NPF and the Discovery Center: $4 per person with a $16 maximum for a family
Non-Members: $6 per person with $24 maximum for a family
