Summary:
As the Solstice approaches we can see the waning conjunction of Mars and Jupiter and the sinking Spring Constellation. The ISS will do a fly over too. All Ages Welcomed
Detailed Description:

On May 31st, Jupiter and Mars were the closest they will get for another 2 years.  In astronomy terms, this is called conjunction and makes for great telescope viewing.  In addition, Jupiter's red spot will be visible. This evening the moon moves toward the first quarter making the night sky dark enough to see the sinking springtime constellations of Bootes, Leo and Hercules.  The Dippers and the vane Queen, Cassiopea, will be pointed out too.  The star of the show will fly over starting at 9:59PM, The International Space Station.  It has a way of quickly appearing, streaking across and then just as fast disappearing to continue its journey around the world.  Come join us and learn about the night sky and view the wonders of the Universe and Man.

Please note:  At 8:30AM, there will ba a mini lesson about what will be seen tonight in the classroom at the Education Building.  This is to help the audience, especially the children, better understand what to look for when we are out on Astronomy Hill.  This mini-lesson is included int the fee.

All Ages Welcome - Registration Required!

What to bring:  Dress for the weather, bring a flashlight as the walk to the observatory is dark. If you have them, lawn chairs and binoculars are welcome too.  Bug spray is highly advisable. Participates may be able to take photographs through the telescopes with their smartphones.
