The Discovery Center is a non-profit organization whose goal is to foster a love of nature, an interest in science, and an appreciation of history and the cultural arts in all persons, particularly the young. Since 1985 we have offered a diverse calendar of events for adults, families, and children, and continued our tradition of educational and affordable programs.
The Discovery Center is a center without walls, meaning we have no building. This allows us to run programs in varied locations, diverse facilities, public open spaces, and private lands, and makes our programs flexible and innovative.
From nature walks, history events, art programs, to events with live animals or birds, these programs appeal to individuals of various ages and interests. We also welcome special groups — such as preschoolers, clubs, or families — and public groups, both large and small. Membership and participation is not limited to Ridgefield, and we encourage people of all neighboring communities to participate in our programs.
The Discovery Center is staffed by our Director, who is supported by board members, community organizations, and individual volunteers who donate their time and expertise to provide special and very affordable programs.
Discovery Center kids do all sorts of fun things – go on nature walks, learn about animals and plants, hunt for treasure, and put their imaginations to work creating art projects. Do it all with the Discovery Center, the place for active children with curious minds. Check the Program Calendar to see what's coming next.

Ridgefield is full of history, from revolutionary war battle sites to historic houses and stone walls. Attend one of our historical walks or lectures, or meet historical local figures like the Leatherman in the town-favorite "Ghosts of Ridgefield" event. Check the Program Calendar to see what's coming next.
Our popular Art Explorers programs allow children to express their creativity making art projects while learning about different artists and visiting local art shows. We also celebrate the relationship between art & nature with plein air drawing and art programs.
